Joseph Harvard was born in the industrial Midlands of England in 1951, into a family of circus performers. After a childhood on the road, he settled into a career as a Design Director for Addison Design Consultants in San Francisco. At Addison he worked on environmental identity projects for Fortune 500 companies worldwide. Though he had a camera in hand for much of his growing up, in 2009, Joe started studying photography in earnest, attending classes at The Los Angeles Center of Photography, Art Center Pasadena, Palm Springs Photo Festival, and City College San Francisco and studying under Frank Ockenfels III, Aline Smithson, Amy Arbus, Eddie Soloway, Ken Light, Holman Turner, Robert Nishihira, and Ken Merfeld. He has exhibited at the Rayko Photo Center and is a Charter member of the Los Angeles Center of Photography, American Photographic Artists, and an Associate member of the American Society of Media Photographers.
